Course examines how policy analysts and social service managers use GIS to better
deploy resources within communities. Planners often use GIS and spatial analysis when building new medical facilities
and social service offices. Demographic analysis using GIS helps better allocate certain social services within the
community (job training/ education centers, reproductive health services, victim service offices, etc.). Transportation
planners also use GIS when implementing traffic calming programs and when analyzing accident hotspots. Focuses on how
this type of geographic analysis can be used to make policy decisions and how this analysis directly impacts communities.
