COURSE DESCRIPTION
Learn Essential HR Skills - Improve your ability to handle challenging HR issues.
The SHRM® Essentials of Human Resource Management Certificate Program is an introductory course offering a comprehensive overview of the human resource function.
This course is specifically designed to challenge you and provide the skills you need to confidently face today's complex HR situations and compliance issues within your organization. You will participate in interactive case study activities designed for you to practice real-life HR situations in a non-threatening atmosphere.

FEATURES
Using Blackboard, a web-based set of course tools designed to deliver online learning, you can be part of a virtual class that will provide a thorough review of the learning system. You will follow a schedule and interact with your instructor and peers in a virtual environment. This course covers the same content as the classroom-based program, offers flexible scheduling and the benefit of attending class on your own computer.
You'll learn techniques for handling HR challenges through interactive case studies designed to make you feel comfortable dealing with HR issues. You'll also receive the SHRM® Essentials of HR Management Certificate Program manual consisting of six modules, glossary, and index as well as the Participant's Activities Book. In addition, you'll have the opportunity earn a Certificate of Completion from George Mason University and to earn Continuing Education units (CEUs) for completing this course.

CERTIFICATE COMPLETION REQUIEMENTS

To receive a Certificate of Completion from George Mason University and SHRM, students must be active participants in the online classroom including the following:
You must login to your course site at least once a week. For purposes of this course, the week will begin and end on Mondays at noon.
You will be expected to read and respond to discussion questions posted in the week's lecture and to reply to your colleagues' comments.
You are expected to post at least 30 responses in the discussion area by the end of the course. These should preferably be done on a weekly basis (four or five per week).
Your response to the initial post in the discussion area should be substantive: that is to say, usually no less than 50 words per reply for each response.
Complete the end of course exam assessment.
Complete all assignments for each unit.

INSTRUCTOR
Toni Knechtges, SPHR, is a Certified Human Resources Professional with over 20 years of experience in the automotive manufacturing and transportation service sectors. Her experience includes recruitment, labor relations, compensation and benefits, industrial safety, and organizational development. She received her bachelor of science in management and her master of science in business administration from Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan where she graduated with high honors. Toni is a graduate of the Leadership Works Program sponsored by the University of Indiana Center on Philanthropy. She was also a member of the Charter graduating class of Leadership Plymouth.
Ms. Knechtges has facilitated training classes for the HRCI Learning System in Management Practices, Human Resource Development, Labor Relations and Health, Safety and Security. Toni has also taught the entire 12-week Learning System program in an online environment. She teaches graduate and undergraduate business, labor relations, and human resource management classes as a full time lecturer at Eastern Michigan University. She has taught an Advanced Human Resource course on Managing Employees in a Dynamic Work Environment as well as Fundamentals of Human Resources courses.
Toni has served as an active member of the Human Resources Association of Greater Detroit for over 15 years holding several board positions including President of the Detroit SHRM Chapter. She presently serves on the Michigan State Council of SHRM board as the Director-Elect for Michigan. Additional non-profit board involvement includes a position on the Operation ABLE Board of Directors.
Toni is a consultant, trainer, and facilitator working with companies on their Human Resource training needs. She has facilitated courses for a variety of organizations including the City of Detroit, Human Resources Department, General Motors Corporation, and the University of Michigan internal HR staff. She served as senior judge for statewide competition for HR Games. HR Games is a jeopardy style competition where college students, studying in the Human Resources field, compete against other college groups throughout the state. She has also served as a judge for regional competition for HR Games and has been a regional judge for the DECA group, which is a marketing-related competition for high school students.
