Instructor
Susan Shearouse
Susan H. Shearouse has extensive experience providing facilitation, mediation, technical assistance and training in conflict resolution processes.
She earned a master of science in conflict resolution from George Mason University in 1988, and has served as Executive Director of the National Conference on Peacemaking and Conflict Resolution (NCPCR); She is also a member of the Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution (SPIDR) and the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce.
Training: Susan designs and conducts a variety of interactive workshops and seminars that develop and improve conflict resolution, negotiation, mediation, facilitation, and ADR skills for various audiences.
Facilitation: Susan facilitates group decision-making processes including task forces, teams and working groups within organizations, and focus groups and forums between internal and external constituents. She also conducts long range planning and team-building retreats, which provide organizations a structured opportunity to create specific plans for future programs, reorganize office structures, and restore working relationships.
Mediation: Susan mediated organizational and interpersonal conflicts and contract dispute, guiding individuals and organizations in reaching mutually acceptable agreements that resolve conflicts and problems. These include contract disputes, employer-employee conflicts, and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) claims. She is certified as a mediator of court-referred cases for the state of Virginia.
Technical Assistance: Susan assists organizations in planning, designing and implementing effective systems to prevent and alleviate conflict. These projects range from labor-management issues and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes to preparation and strategy sessions for long-term negotiations.
