COURSE OBJECTIVES
The purpose of this course is to:
- Familiarize students with the basic bookkeeping fundamentals for managing both a personal/service-type business and a merchandising business. Introduce students to a popular bookkeeping software, QuickBooks, used by many small businesses
- Introduce students to double-entry bookkeeping, the foundation for further accounting study.
- Reinforce student's learning through online tests, excel spreadsheet submissions, and hands-on experience with QuickBooks.
At the end of this course, the student should be able to:
- Understand the basic bookkeeping equations and all supporting journals, ledgers, and worksheets. Set up QuickBooks, enter data accurately, and manage the bookkeeping function for a small business.
- Explain and utilize double-entry accounting by understanding the impacts of debits and credits for all account types.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Prerequisites:
This program is designed to prepare the student for an entry-level position as a full-charge bookkeeper. Bookkeeping experience is not required.
PC REQUIREMENTS
The bookkeeping portion of this course can be taken on either a PC or a Mac. The Quickbooks tutorial is not Mac compatible and must be accessed on a PC or IBM compatible computer. Students need to have access to Microsoft Word and Excel to complete the assignments. Students do not need Quickbooks software. GES provides an online tutorial that simulates Quickbooks so students can learn to use the program from any Internet-capable computer.
This program is compatible with the Microsoft Vista Operating System.

Ronald Brown brings over 15 years of experience in the business accounting field. His previous opportunities include Assistant Account Manager for a multi-million dollar hotel chain where he managed the night auditors and revenue of sales. He has also served as Maintenance Account Specialist for Southland Corporation where his primary responsibility was overseeing 600 store maintenance contracts. Currently, Ronald is a staff accountant for Condumex Inc and Porcelanite Tile Company. He manages all asset accounts dealing with 16 banks and four investment accounts for both companies combined. He oversees the Germany, China, and Laredo, TX daily cash flow for operations as well as the monthly accounting closing procedure for AP, AR, and inventory for both companies.
Ronald Brown graduated from Panola Junior College with an associate of science degree in business administration, majoring in accounting. He also earned a bachelor of business administration degree in management from Northwood University.

That is the only way Gatlin Education Services offers its courses. They do not deal

4. Do I have to travel to register for or to attend a Gatlin online course?
All Gatlin courses are delivered entirely online, so you do not have to go to a

5. How long does it take to complete a Gatlin course?
All of our Gatlin courses are asynchronous. You can start and finish the course at
your own pace. Most courses are designed to be completed within 180 days. You may request an extension if you think

6. Do I have to buy additional materials?
Please refer to the green Included Materials box located on the upper right hand side of this page. If materials are included in this course, they will be shipped by Gatlin to you via UPS ground service after you have registered for a course.

George Mason University offers financial assistance through the Sallie Mae Training

8. What happens when I complete the course?
If you obtain a final passing grade of 70% or greater in a course, we will award you
a George Mason University certificate of completion.
9. Who will be my instructor?
Each student is paired up with a George Mason University, OCPE, Gatlin facilitator for one-on-one interaction. The facilitator will be available (by e-mail or by telephone) to answer any questions you may have and to provide feedback on your performance. All of our facilitators are successful working professionals in the fields in which they teach.
