COURSE DESCRIPTION

Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification has become the most recognized credential for the practice of the rapidly evolving profession of project management. This course prepares the participant for the PMP® certification examination offered through the Project Management Institute.

Only people who have successfully demonstrated their mastery of the basic concepts of project management are allowed to use the PMP® designation. Increasingly, companies all over the world are recognizing the value that project management can provide to their corporate performance. The establishment of career paths for project managers has recognized this growing importance. PMP® certification has become a requirement for promotion in many organizations.

The examination itself is based on A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®).* Project management is a crosscutting profession that is practiced in many different environments. The PMBOK® is recognized worldwide as the defining and unifying document for the practice of project management. The PMBOK® provides a common lexicon and a basis for the evolution of new practices for this rapidly growing profession. It is comprised of the nine knowledge areas that also serve as the basis for the examination.

    TOPIC HIGHLIGHTS

This four day course is a hands-on tutorial that prepares participants to sit for the PMP® Certification Examination. The instruction approach includes lecture, case studies and class exercises. Extensive use of case studies and in-class exercises provide for active student involvement in practical use of course content. Prior to taking this course, participants are encouraged to either take the course Essentials of Project Management or acquire equivalent knowledge.

The nine PMBOK® areas of knowledge are addressed as separate modules. Presentations highlight the most significant aspects of each module. Participants individually answer a series of questions from our database. After each of these individual working sessions, the entire class reviews each question. In this manner, both the content and format of examination questions become familiar to each student. From the results of proceeding on a module-by-module basis, participants will be able to identify weak areas that require more individual study. The last session is a mini examination mimicking the PMP® Certification Examination. This course covers these nine knowledge areas identified in the PMBOK®:

    • Project Integration Management
    • Project Scope Management
    • Project Time Management
    • Project Cost Management
    • Project Quality Management
    • Project Human Resource Management
    • Project Communications Management
    • Project Risk Management
    • Project Procurement Management
