COURSE DESCRIPTION

Successful projects start with sound planning and reach completion based on effective project management techniques. While establishing baselines is key to project success, measuring progress and adapting to changing circumstances is vital to accomplishing project objectives.

This highly participatory two-day course covers, in detail, project estimating to include work breakdown structure, duration and schedule development, resource estimates, and use of the Critical Path Method (CPM). This course looks at various measures of project performance and concentrates on how to keep a project on course. Measuring progress requires that the data be current, complete, and accurate. Students will gain insight into best practices in project estimating schedules, costs, and resource requirements. Using these data, a number of techniques have been developed that help measure project status.

  • This course concentrates on one of the most successful project measures- earned value analysis. This technique has proven to be highly successful in assisting project managers to better measure where their projects stand. Participants will examine various ways that managers can make changes to on-going projects in a manner that improves performance without being disruptive. Identifying problem areas is a trait for all successful managers. Beyond relying solely on instinct, we will explore how managers use a variety of techniques aimed at early problem identification, predicting its impact, and how to take corrective actions.
