CERTIFICATE OVERVIEW
Projects and project management has become the foundation for success in the public and private sectors. Enterprises achieve their goals through projects and effective project management. Successful project management requires achieving the scope (e.g., intended result), cost and schedule. In addition, the increasing complexity of work and demands for "more with less" place special demands on the project manager.
These programs go beyond the “What is project management and practices” to providing practical “How To” guidance, tools and techniques, and processes to implement in today’s working world.
The Project Management Certificate program, consisting of four core course and one elective, provides you the opportunity to learn the basics of project management- how to plan, execute, control and complete projects. The core courses focus on key trends in managing projects and demands on the project managers. You will learn how to prepare project schedules, develop project measures and approaches to project control; and how to develop, lead and motivate project teams.
In addition, our Project Management core courses prepare you to take the PMP® Certification Exam offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI). PMI is the world's leading organization certifying and representing 60,000 project management professionals worldwide.
The Project Management Certification: PMP Exam Preparation course illustrates the use of key PMBOK Guide tools and techniques through performing numerous actual in-class exercises such as (financial evaluation, project selection, charter development, CPM scheduling, earned value, etc.) Students receive an electronic copy of answers to exercises after the class. A comprehensive set of over 50 electronic tools and techniques (e.g., Project Selection, Charter, Make or Buy Analysis, etc.) are provided in electronic form to Project Management Certification: PMP Exam Preparation course attendees. These tools and techniques may be modified and used by the attendee’s company organization.
After completing the Project Management core courses, you can take in-depth courses to further develop your project management skills. You may select from in-depth courses as your elective. You may also elect to delve more deeply into the use of earned value management concepts and tools. Or you might need a deeper understanding of using MS Project 2010 in you project management environment. A negotiation and conflict resolution course is also an elective option. This elective option allows you to customize a piece of your PM Certificate.
You have 18 months to successfully complete the four core courses and one elective to earn the George Mason University Professional Certificate of Completion.
